A Village Built Almost Entirely After 1956
Savoy didn't incorporate until April 10, 1956, when residents organized specifically to fund their own fire service, and it stayed a village of a few hundred people for years afterward. Between 2000 and 2024 Savoy was the fastest-growing municipality in Champaign County, more than doubling in size -- meaning most of its housing sits on foundations poured well within living memory.
What Fast Growth Means for a Young Foundation
Newer construction doesn't mean immune from movement: Savoy's subdivisions were built quickly, on the same black prairie soil and yellow clay subsoil found countywide, and a foundation poured during a growth surge can still show settlement where compaction or drainage were rushed. Evaluating a Savoy foundation means checking how -- and how recently -- the lot was graded, not just how old the slab is.
